Physiology in Focus 2027

Stockholm, Sweden | July 1–4, 2027

– A joint meeting between the Scandinavian Physiological Society (SPS) and The Physiological Society (TPS)

We warmly invite proposals for symposia for Physiology in Focus 2027, bringing together researchers across the full spectrum of physiological sciences for an exciting and interdisciplinary scientific program in Stockholm. The first day will be devoted to seminars organized by the special interest groups (SIG) within the following areas: cardiac physiology, comparative physiology, molecular physiology, skeletal muscle physiology, renal physiology, vascular physiology and Nordic neuroscience.

We welcome symposia showcasing the latest high-impact findings, emerging concepts, and impactful advances across the field that are shaping the future of physiology. Submissions from all countries are welcome.

Each symposium will consist of one or two organizers, who will also serve as Chairs of the session and therefore will not be included as speakers. Symposia are 90 minutes in duration and will feature:

• Two established investigators (30 minutes each, incl Q&A)
• Two early-career researchers (15 minutes each, incl Q&A)

Early-career researchers should be PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, or faculty members holding non-professorial positions.

• Early-career researcher (15 min; selected from submitted abstracts)
• Established investigator (30 min)
• The final program will include approximately 10 symposia across three days, alongside prize and keynote lectures and poster sessions.

In cases where highly similar proposals are submitted, the organizing committee may combine selected speakers to create a stronger, more balanced, and original symposium.

Eligibility

To submit a symposium proposal, at least one Chair must be a member of SPS or TPS. If you are not already a member, please join via:

• Scandinavian Physiological Society membership
• The Physiological Society membership

Funding

Each symposium may receive funding of up to 2000 Euro (total) to support speaker travel, accommodation, and registration. Travel grants for students and postdoctoral researchers (1000 Euro per person) are available through SPS (www.scandphys.org). Sponsors and external funding are encouraged and will be acknowledged online and in the printed program.

All speakers are required to submit an abstract.

Proposal submission

The proposal should include:

• Title of the symposium
• Brief summary of the topic and the expected contributions of the speakers (maximum 400 words)
• Proposed speakers (name, affiliation, and contact information)
• Proposed Chair(s) (name, affiliation, and contact information)

Symposium proposals are expected to reflect diversity and inclusion; proposals with speaker line-ups consisting exclusively of one gender will not be considered.
